  Shop with Confidence in Macau

Welcome to shopping in Macau! A place where you can purchase all sorts of marchandise and fulfill all your shopping desires with satisfaction.

The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) has a wide range of consumer brochures, maps, guidebooks and shopping guides which help you stroll along and discover the many attractions around the city. Just stop at our Information counters and get your free copies on the ground floor of the Ferry Terminal, Airport Arrival Hall, Senado Square, Guia Lighthouse and many other tourist points!

In order to make your visit more enjoyable and pleasant, we have prepared the following shopping tips for you.

  •

You may be approached by strangers at hotel lobbies, arrival hall of Macau International Airport, Macau Ferry Terminal, Border Gate or any other locations, informing you that holders of a foreign passport can purchase Chinese herbs or any other products at a bargain price. Do not believe it! It might be a trap.

  •
Certain taxi drivers may suggest that you go to a particular restaurant or shop which offers more reasonable prices or discounts. We advise you not to believe such offers, since the information may be misleading. In the end you may pay higher a price than normal or an unnecessary commission. You may seek information from our Information counters or MGTO publications for recommended places to eat and shop.

  •
When taking a taxi, don't forget to write down the taxi number and the driver's name which are affixed next to the taxi meter.

  •
Always book your tours with licensed tour operators only.

  •
Always ask the price for every item whenever you are ordering food at a restaurant or purchasing goods at a shop, and make sure it is quoted in Patacas and not US dollars.

  •
Be aware of the price tag, and don't give the shop assistant a chance to change it, especially when the price is much lower than that in other shops.

  •
When buying Chinese herbs and gold, check the unit price and the way in which the weight is calculated (Liang or Jin, tael and catty).

  •
Keep a record of every purchase and be sure that the product, the shop's name, and its address are printed on the receipt.

  •
Make sure that the receipt has complete details of the purchased product, and there is an explicit statement of a refund or exchange policy.

  •
If payments are made by credit card, verify if the respective slip is completely filled in with the total amount. Keep a record of the payment slip.

  •
Be cautious of products sold by unauthorized agents. Buy products only through authorized establishments or accredited agents.

  •
